My heart sank when I spotted the cuts on Qianyi’s right cheek outside the school yesterday. I knew her teachers didn’t even notice it as they didn’t mention it to me at all. Her class teacher assured us that this wouldn’t happen again just a week ago. Hubby and I were very upset. We decided to give the teachers a sterner warning. Here’s what Hubby wrote in the communication book:
Dear Qianyi’s teachers,
Qianyi came home today with two deep-ish cuts on her right cheek, which we believe is a result of being pinched by someone with sharp nails. We are very disappointed with the school over this as this is not the first, nor the second but the THIRD time she has been injured this way.
If you already know there is a child with behavioural problems, the least you could do is to ensure she gets her nails cut and is prevented from inflicting damage on other children.
We really like this school and appreciate you as caring teachers. But if Qianyi cannot be protected from harm, what choice to we have but to consider removing her from this school?
When I went to fetch Qianyi from school this morning, I was invited to have a talk with the director in her room. She apologized for what happened. She’s going to talk to the aggressive girl’s parents soon and would urge them to keep the girl’s fingernails short. According to her, the girl’s parents are very slack in maintaining discipline. She said the girl has been given time-out punishments in school and the teachers kept telling her not to hurt her friends but sometimes it happened too fast. Ya, “it happened too fast” that the teachers didn’t even know Qianyi has been injured. Sigh.
We do think these are indeed preventable incidents as there are only 8 students in Qianyi’s class. Her cheeks have been injured thrice within 3 weeks. It happened too often! Hope the little brat won’t hurt my little precious again. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Our little darling is so creative! Last night she created her own slide at home and kept playing with it. Hubby and I were so amazed to see her self-made slide. She had lots of fun playing with this new toy and she would say “let’s slide” before she was sliding down. She wanted Hubby to say “let’s slide” too. She would keep staring at Hubby if he forgot to say so.
She played with her slide again after school today. Here’s some photos of her self-made slide.
I just found out there’s a monster kid in Qianyi’s class. It’s a girl and she’s very aggressive.
Qianyi was badly scratched twice on her left cheek but she’s luckier than another girl whose cheek was bitten. The wound was quite deep because the monster kid refused to let go when she was biting the pitiful girl’s cheek.
Qianyi’s class teacher, Teacher Jal (not Teacher Linda any more) has talked to the monster kid’s parents. They apologized for their child’s aggressive behaviour. The girl was given time-out punishment. Teacher Jal assured us that she won’t let it happen again and she would ensure our little darling’s safety in school.
I’ve applied Zam-Buk on Qianyi’s scratched cheek. The wound’s healing faster this time. We have Zam-Buk at home but I didn’t apply it on Qianyi’s cheek when she was scratched for the first time. Thanks Jean for reminding me.
Some mummies have told me to ask Qianyi what happened and who scratched her cheek. I felt a little heavyhearted when I read the sentence “I’m sure she’ll be able to tell you”. Hmm….actually my late-talking girl still can’t tell me what happened in school and I don’t think she remembers her friends’ names. She joined Nursery 1 last year. All her ex-classmates are already in Nursery 2 this year. She’s left alone in Nursery 1 with 7 new kids. Both her English and Chinese teachers are new too. I’ve told them to try to get Qianyi to talk more in class. She kept her mouth shut all the time initially. When she’s getting more familiar with Teacher Jal, she started saying words. Teacher Jal was very excited to tell me the other day that Qianyi said “I want to go home” when she was crying in class. (I don’t know why she was upset that day. She looked happy when I was there to pick her up.) Teacher Jal told Teacher Linda about it. They tried to get Qianyi to repeat that but she kept her golden mouth shut again. Sigh.
I do hope she’ll be able to tell the monster kid “don’t scratch me” or “don’t bully me” soon…
Qianyi’s left cheek was scratched last Thu. It’s a small wound but quite deep and it’s healing slowly. Teacher Sun, her new Chinese teacher apologized in our teacher-parent communication book. She said some kid had scratched Qianyi’s left cheek while they were playing with toys. We didn’t pursue the matter since Teacher Sun had apologized and explained what had happened.
Today, my poor darling’s left cheek was scratched again! The old scar’s still there and now there are several fresh scratches. Her teachers didn’t mention anything to me while I was there to pick her up. I noticed the new scratches on her face while we were walking home. Back home, I checked the communication book immediately. There’s no apology from her teachers. I’m very disappointed and angry. My heart ached when I looked at her scarred cheek. Why did the monster kid(s) keep attacking her left cheek? We must give her teachers a very stern warning.
Welcome to my new blog! I am finished with Blogger and Blogspot. Its system issues were making it increasingly more and more frustrating to use. It takes forever to just upload a photo! As many fellow bloggers have moved to WordPress, I guessed it’s time for me to follow suit. With Jean’s help, I managed to import my posts from Blogspot to WordPress quite successfully though some pictures are missing. Thanks again, Jean!
We collected our new car, Honda Civic 2.0 yesterday. We’ve been driving around these two days. With a car, our life’s getting more colourful. ![]()
Qianyi enjoyed the car rides very much because there are no outsiders, not even a taxi driver because it’s Daddy who’s driving the car! She loved sitting in her new colourful car seat and was smiling all the time. We bought the nice and comfy seat from Baby’s Hyperstore. It cost a whopping $319, after discount but I guess it’s worth it.
Qianyi went back to school two days ago. Everything’s back to normal and my life’s so much easier now. The teachers have been very busy dealing with the crying kids. I didn’t get to talk to them until today.
After sending Qianyi to school this morning, I stayed there for half and hour to order the concert photos. I received the concert vcd yesterday. Qianyi and I watched it a few times before Hubby came home. When Hubby watched it, he laughed all the way because Qianyi looked so funny during the Hawaiian dance and the catwalk.
Both Teacher Linda and Teacher Esther told me that Qianyi’s a very good girl. She has shown a great improvement. I was quite surprised to hear that some old kids were crying too including a 6 year old boy. Luckily, my little one goes to school happily every morning. Teacher Linda told us that Qianyi covered her ears when other kids were crying. Teacher Esther laughed upon hearing that and said it was Qianyi’s turn to laugh at others. Haha, she forgot she used to cry a lot when she first started school. We all agreed that the 3-week holiday classes did help a lot. Qianyi enjoyed the holiday program very much.
Teacher Linda suggested me to let Qianyi attend their enrichment class (Jolly phonics). It’s held every Monday, 12.30 to 1.30pm. The phonics lessons will help her pronounce properly. I’ve just discussed it with Hubby via email. We decided to let her join the phonics class. That’s good…I’ll have longer break every Monday!
When Qianyi woke up on the first day of year 2007, I wasn’t there. Hubby was taking care of her. He brushed her teeth, changed her out of her pyjamas, made her a bottle of milk and brought her out for a walk. While they were at the playground, she suddenly asked, “Where’s Mummy?”
I was feeling super stressed dealing with this little monster’s tantrums…so Hubby suggested to let me take half day off on the New Year’s Day. It’s a badly needed break for me to recharge my patience battery.
I had breakfast with my good friend, DM. After breakfast, we went swimming together. We enjoyed the swim and our “girly chat” sooooooo much! We also said hello to an Indian lady who was swimming alone. It’s a great way to celebrate the New Year and the weather’s beautiful!
It’s already 1pm when I reached home. Qianyi’s so happy to see me. She followed me everywhere and wanted me to carry her. Hubby said she’s a good girl when I wasn’t around but she didn’t look as happy when I wasn’t there. :p
