When I informed Qianyi’s teacher that she has has contracted Influenza A, I told them she should have gotten it from school.
The teacher called me back the following day, saying MOE needed Qianyi’s lab test report. What I have emailed them, the medical certificate and the tax invoice (to show them that doc has prescribed Qianyi Tamiflu) couldn’t prove that Qianyi has contracted Influenza A.
The teacher asked me every single detail, especially the H1N1 test. A lady took a swab from Qianyi’s nose. They were using some test kit. Within a few mins, the paediatrician told me, “It’s Influenza A.”
Qianyi’s body temperature was 40C then. They inserted a suppository into her anus and told me to feed her fever medicine 4 hours later. If her temperature was above 39C , insert a suppository 4 hours after the medicine was given.
The teacher told me the clinic doesn’t belong to the hospital. If I brought Qianyi to the A&E department, they would give her a blood test and admit her.
The paediatrician didn’t ask us to put on a mask. The ladies at the counter were not wearing a mask either. I was told to let Qianyi stay at home for one week. There’s no quarantine order for me. We came home in a taxi.
I checked her temperature almost every hour that night. It’s below 37C the whole night. She looks fine these two days. I’m not sure she’s really contracted H1N1 now.
Qianyi’s teacher called to check on her yesterday. She told me other kids at school were fine. The school doesn’t need to close for one week since there’s no lab test report.
Whatever it is, my girl has recovered. But she’s bored staying at home ..I’m bored too. She can only go back to school next Monday.
Hubby bought a child-size Singapore Airlines uniform from the airport to cheer the little one up from enduring H1N1. She loves it so much because Chiaki has one too. She refused to remove it after wearing it for two days. She kept saying, “I want to wear this!” I had to pretend to pour water on her clothes accidentally and made her change..sigh..
Qianyi was wearing her cheong sum to celebrate Racial Harmony Day at school yesterday. When it’s time for occupational therapy in the afternoon, she refused to change into shirt and pants.
When Gor-gor (her occupational therapist) saw her, he asked if she could move around comfortably in that cheong sum. Haha..I had made her put on a pair of shorts inside.
Qianyi loves to put things on her head and look in the mirror to admire her “hat”. She said “ugly” to herself after putting a cone on her head. Gor-gor said, “Yes, that’s an ugly hat. It doesn’t match your cheong sum!” When she put inappropriate thing on her head, we said UGLY!
To make her understand the difference between Ugly and Pretty, Gor-gor went to look for something nice for her head. He found a white ribbon. He told Qianyi to hold the ribbon for him while he was cutting it into two. Gor-gor helped to tie the ribbon in her hair too although he’s not very skillful.
I’ve just introduced her to the story “Ugly Duckling”. She loves it. She can say, “You are ugly, go away…” Hope she won’t say it to her friends.
I asked Qianyi yesterday, “Daddy’s going to London tomorrow. Do you want to go with Daddy?” She said, “No, I want to stay at home with Mummy.”
Hubby just left. We planned to go to the airport together but the little one refused to go.
When she woke up, I told her we were going to the airport. She wasn’t happy. She said she wanted to stay at home. When I persuaded her to change into her pretty dress, she said, “I want to wear this..I want to wear pyjamas. ” She said she wanted to rest.
It was still early. We let her have her breakfast and thought she would change her mind later but she didn’t. Hubby said she didn’t want to go because she knew Daddy’s flying to London alone.
Hubby has promised to buy her some Little Princess books. She told him which one she wanted too.
Missing him already.. It’s Sunday, should be our family day. Now…just the two of us…sitting in front of the computer.
It’s been more than 4 months since Qianyi started speech therapy and occupational therapy. We had a review recently and we have seen the paediatrician and psychologist as well to see what is best for our little precious to move her forward although she has shown some improvements.
We think the best choice for Qianyi is a private special school. She would certainly feel lost if she’s in a mainstream school. We think it’s wise to let her develop at her own pace.
I’ve learnt to take things easy. No more stress, no more tears. Life is short..I’ll try my best to enjoy it.
Qianyi can express herself better these days although it’s still not good enough. Hubby was having a drink with his friends last night. She started yawning around 10.30pm. I told her it’s time to go to bed. I said, “Mummy close the door. Let Daddy sleep in the car.” She was unhappy, “No…Open the door..I want to wait for Daddy!”
